Bond Assessment Papers for Verbal Reasoning

The Verbal Reasoning Papers provide practice at all the reasoning skills that are commonly set in a range of selective exams, particularly 11+. They are the only series of books that provide continuous, graded practice from the age of six upwards.

Verbal Reasoning tests consist of word puzzles of various kinds. Click on this link to see examples of verbal reasoning questions. Reasoning Papers can be set in two different ways.

in standard format - where the children write the answers on the question paper
in multiple-choice format - where children tick a box on a matching answer sheet.

Bond's Papers set questions in standard format because these questions are often more challenging for children and can be a better test of their thinking skills. If they can manage questions in standard format they will transfer to a multiple-choice format very easily when the exam approaches.

The key issue with verbal reasoning is that the questions are genuinely testing - and the questions in Bond Assessment Papers and Bond's 11+ Test Papers certainly are! We build up the skills from book to book, introducing more question types in each successive book, so that by the time they reach the range of Fifth Papers children will be familiar with around 50 different styles of question. This is a wider selection of question types than are likely to appear on an exam paper and this provides children with a significant strategic advantage. Learning and practising as many different question types as possible greatly reduces the potential for children to be faced with ‘surprises’ during an exam.

We also provide an essential tutorial guide for verbal reasoning (How to do … 11+ Verbal Reasoning) that accompanies the Bond verbal reasoning product range.
